Steve Kornicki has been composing concert music since
1987, and his compositions for orchestra and chamber
ensembles have been performed and recorded throughout the U.S. and in
Europe. Steve studied composition & music theory with Jeffrey
Mumford and guitar performance with William Peters at the Settlement Music
School in Philadelphia, PA.
Most recently, "Vertical Color Forms #1 (Cosmic Vistas)" received its world premiere along with "Morning Star Rising" performed by the Rhodes College Orchestra conducted by Joseph Montelione at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN, October 2009.
Horizontal
Color Forms #22 received its world premiere by the Chicago Miniaturist Ensemble at Ossia Fine Arts Space in Chicago in September 2008.
Steve has also worked with the West
End String Quartet from Boston and Hartford. The quartet performed
and recorded Horizontal
Color Forms #15 in 2007 in Pittsburgh.
He works closely with Dave
Gerhart, California State University Long Beach Professor and Percussionist,
and musicians at CSU Long Beach. A series of percussion pieces composed
by Steve, some of which involve the integration
of electronics with live musicians, have been premiered and performed
there since 2000.
In 2005 and 2006 Steve composed several pieces for the
New York Miniaturist Ensemble which
were premiered and perfomed by the ensemble in various venues throughout
New York City. In February 2006 the New York Miniaturist Ensemble performed
Horizontal Color Forms #12 "72 Tones" at a historic concert
that took place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New York City, along
with the premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen's "First Natural Durations".
His orchestral piece, Morning Star Rising,
was recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra and released in June 2005
on the ERM Media CD label. To hear sound samples and read more about this
piece, visit www.morningstarrising.com.
Steve's
CD, "Orchestral, Conceptual and Ensemble
Music," is now available. Listen to samples and read more about
this anthology of Steve's recent symphonic, chamber and electro-acoustic
compositions here.
Steve’s ability to integrate
diverse musical elements into his own unique and personal vision has led
him to his current practice of composing accessible, conceptual
music based on numerical processes and musical theories.
